Happy Thursday!
Instead of my weekly analysis on how technology impacted the media and entertainment world this week, we’re going to focus on how artificial intelligence can be used to identify which skills workers need.
My guest for #AIChat (#AIChat is a 10-15 minutes Twitter chat on artificial intelligence) was @_skyhive
Mistakes are mine.

Q1 for @_skyhive: How can #AI be used to identify which skills workers need #AIChat pic.twitter.com/xH9obdPtsG

We see the challenge of equipping today’s workforce with the right #skills as a multi-step journey: starting with the discovery of one’s skills; then, with real-time labor market insights, workers can identify #upskilling pathways and target learning to fill skills gaps. #AIChat

SkyHive uses #AI to capture real-time shifts in the labor market on a skill level based on 15m+ data points. This skills intelligence helps identify just what skills workers need for their respective roles – which aren’t always what employers or employees think they are. #AIChat

These crucial insights on #skills enable individuals to focus on both targeted career development and learning that adapts with the labor market, ensuring career relevance and #upskilling efficiency while meeting future skills requirements. #AIChat #futureofwork #careerpath

Looking beyond the near-term, SkyHive’s dynamic skills ontology would predict skills composition for different roles based on shifts in skills supply & demand, which helps workers identify future skills gaps so they can proactively target learning for high-impact skills. #AIChat

Could you define ontology for us? In case no one understands this? #AIChat
— Nick Tang (@nickhtang) September 19, 2019
Exactly. We are trying to shift the mindset from thinking at a job level to a skill level. A skills ontology is a directory of how skills are mapped in relation to jobs across industries/functions. Because it’s dynamic, it’s reflecting the real-time labor market shifts in skills.

SkyHive’s B2C platform uses #AI & #NLP to extrapolate a person’s skills from their CV, expanding the depth of knowledge one has about their own capabilities and how they relate to the labor market.
P.S. It’s 100% free for both SMEs and workers!
