Gatekeepers

This is a technology (and it’s impact on the entertainment industry) and marketing lesson.

If you’re a small SVOD or OTT, your audience can’t find you because you don’t have enough marketing dollars to grow beyond your fans (I will argue it’s the same for big companies – they can do all the marketing they want but if there’s no compelling shows for you to watch, you won’t subscribe).

The only way you can be found? Using a gatekeeper service: Roku, AppleTV, Amazon, Google (they make it easy to click and subscribe to your channel. Yes, you’ll pay a small service fee to them but what other choice do you have?):
