Hola!
The research edition.
Figuring out how to help Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment CTO (Chief Technology Office) and CIO (Chief Information Officer) make sense of the changing tech trends in the market (this is what VP, Technology Strategy and Intelligence does); including societal trends (almost no one deals with this)
I love you!

Society is changing and changing fast:
1) as people age, they become more lonely. Their spouse or partner dies. Divorce, disease, losing of fitness (muscle mass, weight) and friends dying (shrinks their friends network). All of them contribute to the loneliness epidemic.
One way to solve this? Robots (borrowing an idea from Japan). That talks back to humans
Whether or not it’s from health related issues or their social fabric disappearing, the human contact has been lost. One solution? Robots (borrowing an idea from Japan)
2) younger, alpha or earlier generations? Tend to play video games (Roblox, Minecraft Education). During their spare time. Less in person activities. More online. To find friends. Or build their network.
How is this related to the technology being used at Netflix or Sony Pictures Entertainment? And how does technology like quantum computing or blockchain impact both companies?
First, why these two technologies? Instead of generative artificial intelligence (AI)?
1) generative AI is the buzzword of the day
2) I’m analyzing the technologies that will power/take/complement AI. The glue that will take AI to the next level
Quantum and blockchain technologies fit the bill. Because they will:
- help people buy products in a secure way (keep in mind that blockchain, especially bitcoin, is popular again. As it keeps going up = interest in the technology) and
- creates a better, more private, secure communications, method.
From better AI avatars to better live streaming interactive films (similar to the “Choose Your Own Adventures” books; where you get to pick what your character can do from the options) to finding better solutions to complex problems.
Second, what are the implications for Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment (aka, I’m tying everything together)?
- the need for more interaction – whether it’s through an AI avatar or online gaming community (where people of all ages meet to play and game, and interact) = the need for more processing speed and servers to handle the live stream (even though edge computing could be used, quantum computing is more important to speed things up) and
- a way for advertisers (or creators, to create and sell merchandise) to get paid using blockchain/bitcoin. Either by using AI avatars to sell goods directly to the people or gamers or advertisers buying NFTs to get people to buy the items.
One industry Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) could copy from?
The fashion industry.
Whether or not it’s using AI avatars (I love the virtual mirrors that use your image that allows you to see if the item you want to try is a perfect fit) or finding a way to use NFTs, it’s one industry to get ideas from.
