Happy Wednesday!
A longish type post (doing the job as a tech strategy and intelligence VP)
I love you!

Part of tech strategy and intelligence?
Examining patents.
To see:
- the technology behind it (aka under the hood) and
- how/if Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment can use it
I need to define some terms for you:
- fluid simulation is linked to fluid animation (computer graphics that are used to create realistic movement of fluid, such as smoke or water). Also known as “fluid sim”
- tear sheet – I’m borrowing this idea from the business world. When you buy a mutual fund or any investment, there’s a page (or two) that explains the mutual fund (risk tolerance, how much your money will grow over a certain period, expenses). That’s a tear sheet (where you can tear it out of a book). I’m going to create my own one page tear sheet on this Disney patent: https://patents.google.com/patent/US20230376656A1/en?oq=Disney++US+2023%2f0376656+A1
===================
What does this Disney patent do?
Using machine learning (ML) models (2 of them) to create a unique picture using computer graphics. And to make sure the computer image the viewer is watching on their screen looks reals (example? Waves)
The ML models? Located in the system memory (the hardware processor takes the information and “links” it to the ML models. That tells the software code to add or subtract pixels before creating the final graphic. Or image.
Impact on the viewer. Or gamer?
Amazing graphics that will keep the gamer or viewer glued to his or her seat. Same as amazing movie graphics you see on the big screen.
Implications for Netflix? And Sony Pictures Entertainment?
The old way of creating fluid simulation needs a lot of steps.
This way from Disney? Less steps. Create graphics faster. Using 2 ML models.
